Dear Sirs,

I have a question for you to assist me.

My name is Rev. Phillipe Augoin. I am parish priest for my congregation in a small town in southern France.

I am asking to you for assistence with me.

I am to give a preaching to my congregation on Sunday and I have thought about to use PowerPoint and technology for added extra in affect for the word of our God Almighty.

Is it you can help to me with how to do this and what is the best way to helping me with this to spread the word of our Lord to our congregation?

With blessings,

Rev. Rev. Phillipe Augoin

Dear Reverend Phillipe,

thank you for your question for us here at 123PPT.com.

The use of PowerPoint in preaching, sermons, and gatherings, is most common place in for example the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, and could perhaps be seen merely as a next step in terms of communicating with your local parish.

Naturally, as with the spoken word itself, content is still of greatest importance Phillipe, and may I ask what your thoughts of using PowerPoint are? so that I may better understand your situation.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you to reply Jonathan,

my thoughts are to use PowerPoint to project some words from the scriptures and writings of the gospel of John.

I will be speaking to my congregation of a story of a local peasant girl who lived in a local village many years ago and how is the same as a passage from the gospel according to John.

I think that using PowerPoint is project large words against our altar will help my story understand is purpose with my congregation no?

I would agree totally with you Phillipe. I believe that using a projector is indeed a very strong way to gain the attention of your congregation and perhaps no where more strongly captured than at your church's altar.

I would advise you in this case Reverend, not to use a PowerPoint template, or design, as I think that this would distract your audience and lessen the impact of oyur reading.

Using only large bold words that have a clear and apparent contrast to the colour of your altar is a very storng and powerful way to put specific words or phrases to your congregation and have those words stand out and carry great weight.

If I may also suggest Phillipe, do not use any music or background sound effects, or visual imagery such as photographs or illustrations.

As you speak your congregation will of course be listening to your every word. Using PowerPoint and a projector to porject key words and phrases from your speech onto your altar will help your audience understand and appreciate the importance of these words.

Using images, or music, would again detract your audience from these words and their power, and lessen their strength.

Often music and images used incorreclty can also be problematic in that it can appear as a parody or comedic Reverend, and again I would imagine the point of your story is serious and has valid meaning?

I am sorry I am confuse with your words. Is not to use music I agree. Is not to use picture I agree. Is just to use words of our Lord. I cannot use anything more no?

Dear Phillipe,

what I mean is that in using only large bold projected words against your altar instead of images, or music, the power and strength of these words will be much greater and have a greater impact and effect upon your audience.

You can of course use images and music if you wish, but I would recommend not to do so to maxmize the impact of your sermon.
