Hey Charlotte!
Welcome to the 123PPT Community and PowerPoint Forum.

MP4  or  MPEG-4 is a file format that is generally used on the Apple iPod and iPad devices.

It is not a generic or standard PC video file format and in order to play mp4 files usually a special codec is required by Windows in order to play the video correctly.

The http://www.123ppt.com/video-backgrounds-studio/ - 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio for PowerPoint allows you to import:
  • WMV
  • MPG
  • AVI
  • MOV
  • 123

Video file types. This covers all the standard Windows video file types including Apple Quicktime movies as well as our own professional standard in http://www.123ppt.com/powerpoint-video-backgrounds/ - video backgrounds which are optimized for play back in the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio and PowerPoint presentations.

To import a mp4 video into the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio and PowerPoint you will first need to convert the video into one of the above standard video file formats so that the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio can read your video file.

There are many free converters online which you can find through any search engine.

Once converted simply use the Your Video option (the video camera icon) to browse to the location of the video on your hard drive and import it into your video backgrounds library. You will then be able to insert your video background upon any slide, across any group of slides or  on every slide in your PowerPoint presentation.

I have tried importing a mpeg1 and an mpeg2 video clip and when I go to import them into PowerPoint they show "Not authorized for using with current add-in installation or corrupted."  These files are not corrupted as I can play them both on my computer using a variety of video players. What does it mean I am not authorized???

Hi JP-Ojai,
MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 are not standard file types in Microsoft.

MPEG-2 requires a special decoder, as does MPEG-1 unless it is saved as .mpg file format.

As our site informs your software can import and utilize any of the following file formats:

•WMV
•MPG
•AVI
•MOV
•123

If you are attempting to import and MPEG-2 file or MPEG-1 file that is using non standard Windows codecs then PowerPoint will not be able to play these files.

Windows Media Player has access to your codec library and so you are able to play back many different media file types through Windows Media Player. However, Microsoft PowerPoint does not have access to these libraries and relies on core codecs such as Microsoft Video, Cinepak etc.

If you are attempting to import an MPEG-2 video file please note there is not a standard codec for this file type in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and below. Likewise for MPEG-1 unless MPEG-1 is saved as .mpg file format and rendered using for example Microsoft Video.

Based on your error message, it may be that either or both your file extension is incorrect and / or the videos that you are attempting to import are not using standard Windows Codecs.

I would recommend converting your MPEG-2 file to .WMV file format using the Windows Video 9 codec.

Hope this helps.
