The 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio communicates with the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer to display your slide content.

The Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer is a free standalone application from Microsoft that presents a license agreement splash screen when first opened. In order for the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio to operate correctly and allow play back of your PowerPoint presentations with video backgrounds you must accept the license agreement presented by Microsoft when the PowerPoint Viewer opens.

If you fail to accept the license agreement or ignore the license agreement an Error 3 alert message will be reported and your presentation unable to play.

To accept the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer license agreement press your Windows Start button and navigate to

Windows Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007

This will open and launch the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer. Accept the terms of the license agreement and close Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer.

You can now play your presentation with video backgrounds.

Ok . In Windows XP and Windows Vista you'll find the PowerPoint Viewer in your All Programs listing. Windows 7 is slightly different. Press your Windows Start button and navigate to:

Windows Start > Computer > Program Files > Microsoft Office > Office12

There you will find a file called PPTVIEW.

Double-click the PPTVIEW file to open Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer.

Accept the license agreement. Now return to your PowerPoint presentation. Your 'Error 3' code should be corrected and your presentation with video backgrounds should play correctly.

Hi Timothy,

welcome to the 123PPT Community.

The 'Error 3' message occurs if
  1. Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer is not installed on your machine or if installation of the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer failed during installation of the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio.
  2. You have not accepted the license agreement for the Microsoft Office PowerPoiint Viewer.

So firstly Timothy, you need to check to ensure that Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer is installed on your machine.

If you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista please go to

Windows Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007

If you are running Windows 7 then please go to

Windows Start > Computer > Program Files > Microsoft Office > Office12

If you have not accepted the license agreement, when you double click the PPTVIEW flle a license agreement will be presented to you only for a few seconds. You must press the 'Accept' button in order to accept the license agreement and use the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer.

If instead a browser dialog window opens then you have previously accepted the license agreement and you can close the dialog window return to PowerPoint. Open or create a presentation with video backgrounds and then use one of the two play back options provided in the 123PPT Play & Share section which can be seen here as the second screenshot from the bottom of the page http://www.123ppt.com/video-backgrounds-studio/screenshots.asp - Play Share, Burn To Disc .

When you press either the Play from Beginning or Play from Current Slide icon your presentation starts but no video background plays or if you are presented with an 'Error 3' message then the installation of the Microsoft Office PowerPoint  Viewer on your machine is corrupt and needs to be reinstalled.

Please go to your Control Panel and the  Add/ Remove Program section to list all applications installed on your computer.

Scroll down to the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer and uninstall / remove this from your computer.

Once the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer has been uninstalled please go to http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=6 - Download Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer and download and install the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer.

When installation is complete you will now be able to return to PowerPoint and play your PowerPoint presentations with  video backgrounds Smile

I uninstalled PPT viewer, downloaded it again reinstalled, accepted the license agreement.  Tried it again, still presentation starts but no video background and then error 3. So I uninstalled PPTViewer 2010 and installed PPTViewer 2007 and it works fine.

Hi Timothy,

thanks for the update. Greatly appreciate sharing experiences so we can help other users.

The PowerPoint Viewer 2010 is actually a brand new release from Microsoft. Infact f you go to the Microsoft web site and search for PowerPoint Viewer they will offer you PowerPoint Viewer 2007 not 2010.

I have a feeling Timothy, as Microsoft have only launched it with the English language also that it is still problematic and not an entirely finished product.

PowerPoint Viewer 2007 is steady and stable and seems the right solution at this point for your system.

Happy to hear PowerPoint Viewer 2007 resolved the issue. Keep us up to date with your presentations Timothy!

Hello, I am having the same problem as Timothy. I am using Powerpoint 2010. I understand at the time it was new this being an issue, but it's been almost 3 years since the last post and I am still having the same problem. I have uninstalled the Powerpoint Viewer and Reinstalled it and still having same problem. It opens, no video, then after a few seconds I get the error 3 message. This is a time sensitive matter for an upcoming presentation and any help you have would be great. Thanks.

Hi Brandon,
welcome to the PowerPoint Forum.

The error 3 problem is unfortunately due to Microsoft and not an issue that we can resolve in our software or with an update.

The Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer is a "locked" application, ie. we cannot integrate it's code into our software and control it and there are very few and limited methods to return an error from it.

One of these, is "error 3".

Error 3 means that either, the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer is not installed on your machine. Or that you have not accepted the License Agreement, in which case, it does not open and run.

The Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 is installed with our software. This is because it is still more stable and reliable than the Office 2010 Viewer.

Once installed, if the Viewer has never been opened previously then you must open the Viewer and accept Microsoft's License Agreement.

This only happens the first time you open PowerPoint Viewer, but if you do not accept the License Agreement then the Office Viewer cannot run.

Sadly, as I saw Brandon, this is Microsoft not us and the License Agreement is Microsoft's not ours. The only thing we can do is get an error detection back to our software if it is unable to communicate correctly with the Office Viewer and this is what "Error 3" does.

To remove the "Error 3" command perform the following steps:
  1. Open your Windows Control Panel and Uninstall ALL instances of the PowerPoint Viewer from your machine.
  2. Download and install the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6
  3. Open Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 and accept the License Agreement which is displayed on screen when you first open the application
  4. Close Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007
  5. Open your presentation in PowerPoint
  6. You may now use either of the play back options provided in the 123PPT Play & Share section of your software to play your enhanced PowerPoint presentation with video backgrounds

And that's it Brandon. You're good to go!
