Ok here is my problem with powerpoint 2010. It is a trial version .. for now. I completed making a presentation on my laptop and saved it. Then I saved it onto my memory stick and transported my work to college. The college pc's would not open it. "unable to open this type of file' or some nonsence. I emailed the presentation to my coworker and she just emailed me that her pc would not open it either. I dont get it. Why wouldn't other versions of the same program open this presentation???  The presentation is due on wednesday...so time is ticking!!

Is anyone else experiencing problems with powerpoint 2010?

Does anyone know what I can do? It doesn't make sense that the version should make a difference in opening a powerpoint presentation. Surely someone here has the knowledge to share???

Hi Joanne,

welcome to the 123PPT Community and PowerPoint Forum.

Basically, PowerPoint 2007 and PowerPoint 2010 now saves presentation files in a new format called PPTX, or .pptx

Only Office PowerPoint 2007 and Office PowerPoint 2010 can read this format. Earlier versions of PowerPoint such as PowerPoint 2003, 2002, 2000, etc., use a format called PPT, or .ppt.

If you have sent a presentation made in PowerPoint 2010 or PowerPoint 2007 to someone who does not have PowerPoint 2007 or PowerPoint 2010 installed on their machine, then there is no way they can open your presentation unless you resave your presentation in the older file type of .ppt under the Save As... options in the File menu in PowerPoint.

Good luck with your presentation Joanne. Let us know if you are still having problems opening the presentation on other machines that are running PowerPoint 2007 or PowerPoint 2010.
