I am currently working on a presentation that features several different maps of different sizes. I am looking for a custom animation or technique that would take a small image/photo zoom out to full size from a predetermined smaller size and location.  The closest I have come to obtaining this affect, is the use of three separate animations:

  1. Entrance: Appear - Image of map appears in a corner of the slide, small in size, rectangle
  2. Motion Paths: Custom Path - Image of map moves from corner to center of slide (After Previous) Medium Speed
  3. Entrance: Zoom - Copy of Image, Full size of slide, Zooms in from center of slide (With Previous) Very Fast Speed

These animations give a close look and feel to what I was looking for, but doesn't make it perfect.  I would like if the image comes straight from its location to full size.

If anyone has any ideas, thanks in advance. I wish I could attach a copy of the slide with its animations to the forum.

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

welcome to the 123PPT Community and PowerPoint Forum.

Have you considered perhaps making the animation in Macromedia Flash and then embedding the animation on your slide?

I think your approach to achieving the animation effect is very well informed Ryan. But of course, you have reached one of the greatest problematic cornerstones of PowerPoint. Namely, Animation!

Achieving realistic or more specific animation movement is a problem in PowerPoint and even despite the most creative workarounds. We are often left with a result far below our best intentions.

I would recommend using flash for your animation in this instance Ryan to achieve a smooth and realistic zoom, and you could then follow this simple step-by-step guide on http://www.123ppt.com/powerpoint-tutorials/powerpoint-tips-graphics.asp#40 - How to embed Flash in PowerPoint upon your slide and place your animation in the exact position you require.

Charles, massive thank you. Incredible fast response. Like 2 minutes or so after I wrote my post!

I had a bad feeling that the only way I can do what I really need to do is with Adobe Flash, but i hate working with that program. I don't understand how Adobe think people can use Flash? It's like the single most un-user friendly app ever made.

I think I'm going to try to persevere with PowerPoint and just do the best I can.

Thanks again though for your help Charles. Have a great weekend.

Ryan
