Good Morning,
I have a powerpoint that I created and I have about 6 videos that I would like to include in the powerpoint. I have the movie files in the same location as the .ppt file, I have imported them, played them, and nothing seems to work.

I have tried the extensions .mov (quicktime export from iDVD), .avi, and .mpg. None have worked. What could be the problem that would cause it not to work?

I am using Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition

Hi mouse and welcome to the 123PPT Community.

It seems like there is a problem with missing codecs on your machine. Or that the movie files were encoded using codecs which your machine does not have.

I would recommend downloading and installing the http://www.free-codecs.com/k_lite_codec_pack_download.htm - Full K-Lite Codec Pack .

The K-Lite Codec Pack contains all relevant codecs for pc computers and operating systems.

What is a codec and why do I need the K-Lite Codec Pack? I thought all .avi, .mpg, and Quicktime movies play on the pc?

Hi mouse, in general all .avi and .mpg movie files will play on the pc natively through the Windows Media Player and in PowerPoint through the use of MCI Controls.

Quicktime is an Apple Macintosh file format so requires the use of the Quicktime Player in order to play back Quicktime (.mov) files correctly.

A codec is a compression algorithm that is used to convert a video or movie sequence from one file format to another or used when capturing video on your computer and converting the footage into a file such as .mpg or .avi.

By default Windows is installed with a set of standard codecs such as CinePack, Windows Video, and the like, and these standard codecs are usially used when converting or capturing video footage.

On occasion, other non-standard codecs are used when converting video files because the author feels that they can provide higher quality or greater compression ratios than the standard codecs and the benefit for the viewer justifies the use of non-standard codecs.

On the flip side mouse, what this means is that unless the non-standard codec is installed on play back computers, when attempting to play back video files encoded using non-standard codecs, the pc is missing the necessary codec to interpret and display the video and instead returns an error message or misses colors, sound, or frames from the video.

Downloading and installing missing codecs on a play back computer allows the viewer to see and hear the video precisely as it was meant to be seen and heard.

The K-Lite Codec Pack contains the latest releases of all curent codecs available for the pc computer platform which means if your movies are not playing because of missing codecs, then the K-Lite Codec Pack will correct this and allow your pc to play movies which are currently not playing in your presentations.

Thank you for the codecs explanation admin. So if I understand, the reason the movies I have inserted into PowerPoint are not playing are because I do not have the necessary codecs installed for PowerPoint to play the files?

Yes that is correct mouse.

Are you using the Insert command from the Power Point menu to insert videos in PowerPoint or are you using the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio?

I'm not using video backgrounds in this presentation. I am using the Insert PowerPoint menu option and selecting "Movie From File" to insert the movies to play on my PowerPoint slides.

Then I am certain mouse that it is because you are missing the correct codecs.

Download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack and restart your computer when completed. I believe this will fix your video problem in PowerPoint.
