    Posted: 18 Aug 2011 at 09:28
I know that I need to purchase a license of the 123ppt video backgrounds studio to be able to import my own videos to use as video backgrounds in PowerPoint. But, I was wondering, since I see the deluxe edition can import YouTube movies (.flv files) into PowerPoint can it also import other .flv files?

After I read the product description I see that the deluxe edition will import all .wmv, .mpg, .avi, .mov, .123 video files as well as YouTube movies. My question is, if I purchase the 123ppt video backgrounds studio deluxe edition can I also import .flv files from my hard drive?

Hi Millie,
welcome to the 123PPT Community and PowerPoint Forum.
The 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio Deluxe Edition allows, as you rightly stated you to import:
  • .WMV
  • .MPG
  • .AVI
  • .MOV (QuickTime)
  • .123 (123PPT Video Backgrounds)
  • .FLV (YouTube Movies)

The YouTube function is a unique function that allows you to connect to YouTube, select, download and insert YouTube in PowerPoint either as a video background or as a standalone full screen movie with sound.

The Your Video import functionality only allows you to import .wmv, .mpg, .avi and .mov video file types. As these encompass about 98% of all videos we have opted to include these video file types to allow presenters to import the most popular video file types available.

The Professional Video import function only allows you to import official 123PPT Video Backgrounds for PowerPoint.

The YouTube function, as I mentioned, allows you to connect to YouTube, select, download and insert YouTube movies in PowerPoint.

As .FLV, or Adobe Flash Video, is not a common or typical video format Millie, as it is created usually from exported Shockwave Flash files or using the Adobe Flash Video Encoder, we don't include .FLV as an import video file type outside of its primary use of YouTube.

Of course, in the next release and version of the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio we may well include it as an additional import format, but as .FLV really has very limited penetration outside of YouTube, it was hard for us to justify including it as a video file format in the current release which already allows users to import YouTube videos directly.

Hope this helps answer your question Millie.

Hey admin,
thank you for replying so quickly. Yes, you have answered my question perfectly thank you.

Has the current version of the 123ppt video backgrounds studio been out long? Are there any plans to release a new version soon or will the current version be the latest version for sometime to come?

The 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio is currently in version 3.5.

The 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio v.3.5 was released on 6th June 2011 and will remain our latest release and version of our product for many months to come Millie.

Of course, at somepoint in the future we will release a new version, most likely version 4.0. But no development has started on this at this time so version 3.5 will remain the latest version of our software for several months to come.

Are you concerned about upgrades and updates Millie or the possibility of having .FLV as an additional movie import file type?

Both really admin.

I would be unhappy to purchase the deluxe edition of the 123ppt video backgrounds studio now if 123ppt was about to release a new version shortly and I then had to upgrade to it. And I am curious to see if .FLV will be added to the video file type list as otherwise I see I will need to convert several of my own video files into a compatible format if I am going to be able to use them in your software as a video background in powerpoint.

As I say Millie, the current release of the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio v.3.5 will remain our latest version for several months at least to come.

We offer free updates to all users, so for example if you license the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio v.3.5 and we release an update to v.3.5 you receive this freely and at no charge.

Upgrades to all new releases, for example from version 2.0 to version 3.0 is not free and we do ask a small upgrade charge. When I say small Millie, I really do mean small, as we offer both an "early bird" upgrade scheme whenever we first release a new version and allow users to upgrade for 20% of the license cost.

I have already added your request Millie to our version 4.0 wishlist. Where we are gathering all our users feedback and input for new features and functionality they would like to see added to a future version of our product. So who knows, it may well be that Adobe Flash Video format is included as a video import option type in the next version of our software.

In the meantime Millie, you would need to convert any .FLV videos that you intend to use as video backgrounds into either .WMV, .MPG, .AVI or .MOV to import them into the 123PPT Video Backgrounds Studio for PowerPoint.

Then I would also like to request that the abiltiy to publish directly online is also added. So I could publish my PowerPoint presentations with video backgrounds directly to my blog and my Facebook page and YouTube. Smile
