Hi,
I have a presentation that I want to run on a CD so that when the user puts it in their machine it runs automatically.
How do I do this?
Thank you, Henrietta |

Hi Henrietta,
welcome to the 123PPT Presenters Forum.
Creating an autorun cd/ Windows autorun CD, with PowerPoint is not too difficult.
If you are using PowerPoint 2003 or higher, then you have also most likely downloaded PowerPoint 2003 Viewer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=428D5727-43AB-4F24-90B7-A94784AF71A4& displaylang=en .
PowerPoint Viewer enables you to easily create an auto run PowerPoint cd of your presentation even if you are using an older version of PowerPoint or have created your PowerPoint presentation in an older version such as Microsoft PowerPoint 97, Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, or Microsoft PowerPoint 2002.
To create your auto run cd Henrietta:
- Use the Pack and Go feature of PowerPoint to package your presentation to a folder on location on your hard disk drive.
In the Pack and Go Wizard, when you are prompted to include the Viewer, click Don’t include the Viewer. - Open Windows Explorer to navigate to your packaged presentation.
- Double-click the Pngsetup.exe file.
- In the Pack and Go Setup dialog box, enter the location of where the packaged file should be unpacked, and then click OK.
When PowerPoint 2003 Viewer ask you if oyu would like to run your slide show, click No. - Now copy the contents of the PowerPoint Viewer 2003 folder to the unpack folder.
(PowerPoint Viewer 2003 installs by default to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\PowerPoint Viewer
- Open Notepad, Word, or WinWord and write:
[autorun] open=pptview.exe /S /L playlist.lst
Then save the file with the name autorun.inf making sure that you save this file in the unpack folder.
- Now open Notepad, Word, or WinWord and write:
@pptview.exe /S /L playlist.lst
Then save the file with the name play.bat again making sure that you save this file in the unpack folder.
- If you created the Pack and Go package by using PowerPoint 2002, you must edit the Playlist.lst file:
You must remove the /S that comes in front of the file names in the play list, then remove the quotation marks around the file names, and then put each file name on a separate line.
For example, if the original playlist contains the text:
/S "Christmas.ppt" "Holdays.ppt"
You would modify the text in the Playlist.lst file to read,
Christmas.pptHoldays.ppt - We're almost there Henrietta, now you need to simply verify the contents of the unpack folder by starting the Play.bat file.
When you run the Play.bat file, Viewer 2003 should start and show the presentations that are listed in the Playlist.lst file.
- If the Playlist.lst plays correclty you can now burn the contents of the unpack folder directly to CD or DVD to create your self running autoplay PowerPoint CD.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you're having any problems Henrietta.
