Hello everyone,

does anyone know how to edit autoshapes in PowerPoint?

I've been trying for ages now to work with them but they're so awkward and difficult to transform. I was hoping someone knew how to transform and alter them so I can adjust and change their shapes
Thanks. Hula.

Hi Hula Girl,

welcome to The Presenters Forum Smile

Editing AutoShapes are a lot easier than starting from scratch and making your own shapes.

There's nothing faster than editing an existing shape if you need to make a new one.

To edit an AutoShape, you need to use the Edit Points Tool. Just select the shape and use the tool to move, edit and adjust the points to create the shape you require.

Enjoy

Hi Hula,

the Edit Points Tool is not available by default when you select an AutoShape.

If you want to edit an AutoShape

  • Click the AutoShape that you wish to adjust to select it.
  • Choose Cut from the Edit menu option, or press Ctrl+X to cut the AutoShape to the clipboard.
  • Next select Paste Special from the Edit menu.
  • In the Paste Special dialox box that appears, select Picture (Enhanced Metafile) from the Paste As: list box and press OK.
  • The AutoShape should now be visible once again on your slide, and the Picture Toolbar open in your presentation.
  • Right mouse-click the AutoShape and select Ungroup from the Grouping menu option on the shape dialog box.
  • A warning message appears saying, "This is an imported picture, not a group. Do you want to convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object? Press the Yes button.
  • The AutoShape is no longer an AutoShape but a fully editable drawing object shape!
You can now freely edit the points of the shape Hula using the Edit Points tool or the other PowerPoint drawing tools and edit the shape as you desire.

Hope this has been of some help Hula, and you can now edit PowerPoint's AutoShapes Smile
